RESPONSIBLE TO: The Board of Directors of Eala Óg
MAIN JOB PURPOSE:
The Project Leader for Eala Óg Childcare Centre will manage, support
and supervise the team and take responsibility for the day to day
running of the service. Management also includes preparation of
returns for funders and related documents, managing and maintenance of
income and expenditure in relation to the finance system. Regular
reporting to the Board pertaining to the service and liaising with the
Board of Directors in ensuring high quality and best practice
standards are maintained at the Centre.
OVERALL DUTIES:
* To ensure the effective daily management of the centre in
accordance with the current Childcare (Pre-school Services)
Regulations, all relevant legislation and good practice requirements
(as outlined in the SÍolta / Aistear frameworks for early education)
* To ensure the delivery of good quality care and education to each
child within the service
* To act as a positive role model and to provide leadership, support
and motivation to the staff team
* To work with existing staff and promote a team approach to the
delivery of quality care and education in the service
* To act as the Designated Child Protection Person of Eala Óg
* To ensure that the Policies and Procedures of the service are
followed at all times and updated and revised as appropriate
* To report to the designated person on the Board of Directors
STAFF
* Provide direction and support to the childcare workers and to
implement support and supervision sessions
* To ensure that staff: child ratios are compliant with the current
Preschool Regulations
* To manage breaks and lunch breaks on a day to day basis in the
Service
* To encourage staff to maintain a good working atmosphere in the
Centre
* To direct and support students on work experience in the Centre
MANAGEMENT /ADMINISTRATION
* To make appropriate decisions and take appropriate actions in
relation to the childcare aspects of the work and in the first
instance to communicate those decisions to the Board
* Review and monitor occupancy levels, to ensure they are maintained
to maximum capacity levels in line with service ethos and objectives
and ensure financial sustainability
* To monitor staff attendance, staff relations and deal with any
related issues
* To maintain and update accounts systems / completing reports as
required by Funding Bodies
* To maintain up to date necessary records in compliance with the
most recent Childcare Pre-school Services Regulations, roll book,
accident report book, when necessary
HEALTH & SAFETY
* To be responsible for the health, safety and well-being of the
children
* To ensure the highest possible standard of hygiene is maintained
with the children within the group and in the service generally
* To participate in cleaning duties, if required
* To assist in providing a safe, secure and homely atmosphere for
the children
* To have a good knowledge of fire and safety procedures within the
centre
* To bring to the attention of the Board any possible hazards or
risks
* To ensure the building is maintained in a safe and hygienic manner
* To ensure the security of the building is maintained at all times
in relation to access and egress and to the outdoor play area
CHILDREN
* To ensure that all practice is child-centred and responsive to the
individual needs of each child as outlined in SÍOLTA & AISTEAR
frameworks
* To plan a play based environment that promotes active learning and
builds on each child’s strengths
* To design and implement a stimulating programme in conjunction
with staff which will enhance the child’s natural growth and
development
* To ensure that written regular observations and assessments are
carried out in the service in order to support children’s learning
and development
* To ensure the protection of children in accordance with the
National Guidelines for the Protection and Welfare of Children
PARENTS
* To promote the service by giving a good professional image to
parents and visitors
* To ensure that staff greet and meet parents in an appropriate
respectful manner
* To develop trusting relationships with families and keep parents
informed of children’s progress and well-being
* To ensure feedback is given to parents in a constructive and
encouraging manner
* To encourage the active participation of parents
TRAINING & MEETINGS
* To participate in any meeting or training (e.g. First Aid) as
required and directed by the Board
* To encourage and ensure other staff members participate in
training or staff meetings
* To provide a monthly written report to the Board and attend
meetings as requested
FLEXIBILITY
* To balance the operational / administration aspects of the work
with the practice work in the centre.
* To provide cover where necessary to ensure that the adult/child
ratios are adhered to at all times.
COMMUNICATION
* To communicate positively and frequently with team members,
parents and the Board of Directors
* To communicate in a straightforward, accurate and professional
manner and not to engage in unnecessary social conversations when
working and supervising children.
CONFIDENTIALITY
The person appointed to this job shall not during the period of
employment or at any time after the termination of employment disclose
any confidential information in respect of the employer or information
relating to the work, children, parents or staff participating or
working on the project
OTHER DUTIES
* To be knowledgeable of all policies and procedures and to follow
them accordingly
* To review and update childcare policies in consultation with Board
of Directors
* To work with the Board of Directors to ensure that there is
appropriate reporting in relation to all matters in the service
* To take on other responsibilities as reasonably requested by the
Board of Directors
